Service detail — technical audit

Two to three weeks to find out what your system really is

KINGFISHER PHOENIX FINANCE LTD reviews the architecture, the delivery pipeline, the dependencies and the operational risk — then hands you a prioritised list with costs, owners and an honest opinion about what to fix first.

Problem → Solution

Inherited systems rarely come with a map

Plenty of teams own a system nobody fully understands anymore. The original architect left years ago, two services share a database nobody documented, and the build works only because of a workaround that lives in one engineer's shell profile.

KINGFISHER PHOENIX FINANCE LTD spends two to three weeks building that map: how the system actually works, where the coupling sits, what happens when a component fails, and how long a change takes from idea to production. We read the code, watch the pipeline, talk to the people who maintain it, and look at the incident history without judgement.

Then we write it down. You receive a findings list ordered by business consequence, a dependency diagram, a delivery-throughput snapshot and a remediation plan with effort and cost estimates for each item.

We also mark the things that are fine. Not every old service needs replacing, and an audit that produces a rewrite recommendation for everything is an audit nobody can fund.

Scope

Six dimensions reviewed in every KINGFISHER PHOENIX FINANCE LTD audit

Technical audit desk with architecture diagrams and review notes
Week one

Architecture & dependencies

Service map, coupling analysis, data ownership and the hidden contracts that break when one team changes a field name.

◎

Reliability history

Incidents, near-misses, error budgets and the alerts that fired during the last two quarters.

⇄

Delivery throughput

Lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate and where the queue actually forms.

Estimate planning desk with cost spreadsheet and printed architecture diagrams
Week two

Cost & capacity model

What the system costs to run now, what growth adds, and which three changes would move the number most.

▤

Technical debt ledger

Each item with impact, effort, risk of leaving it and the smallest useful next step.

⌁

Team readiness

How much institutional knowledge sits with one person, and what happens to the roadmap if they take a month off.

Deliverables

What lands on your desk

  • An architecture and dependency diagram in a format your team can edit.
  • A findings register with severity, effort, cost and a recommended owner for every item.
  • A remediation roadmap split into "do now", "schedule this quarter" and "safe to ignore".
  • A recorded walkthrough so the reasoning survives after we leave.
  • Optionally, KINGFISHER PHOENIX FINANCE LTD can implement the first tranche of fixes under a separate engagement.
$9,500 – $16,000 Two to three week audit
Rules of engagement

No surprises, no steering

  • We interview at least four people across engineering, operations and the business that depends on the system.
  • Findings are shared with your leadership before the final report is written, so nothing arrives as a surprise.
  • We do not sell the implementation in the same conversation as the diagnosis — you can take the report to another team.
  • If the answer is "do nothing, it is fine", that is a valid and occasionally welcome conclusion.

The audit works remotely by default, with two optional on-site days for architecture walkthroughs. Travel is billed at cost.

Next step

Start with the system you are least sure about

Usually that is the one nobody wants to touch. KINGFISHER PHOENIX FINANCE LTD can scope an audit in a single call — send the system name, the team size and what prompted the question.
