Studio founded
Two engineers, one client, and a written handover document nobody had asked for.
KINGFISHER PHOENIX FINANCE LTD began in 2012 with two engineers and one uncomfortable question: why do so many projects become harder to maintain exactly as they become more important?
KINGFISHER PHOENIX FINANCE LTD started in 2012 as a two-person consultancy fixing a payments platform that had outlived its documentation. The fix took five weeks; the follow-up conversation about how the system should have been built took three hours. That second conversation shaped the studio.
By 2016 we were working with distributed teams across the country and had learned that geography changes the engineering problem: documentation matters more, handoffs matter more, and trust has to be engineered. In 2019 we opened an internal R&D practice to prototype before pitching — a habit that still saves clients from buying ideas that do not survive contact with real traffic.
In 2024 we formed a dedicated platform operations group, because the most valuable part of our work was always the week after launch: when the team is tired, the runbook is thin, and somebody has to be awake at 3 a.m.
Today the studio numbers more than 40 engineers and architects, serves organizations nationwide, and still takes only the work it believes it can do well. That constraint has cost us some briefs. It has also kept the good ones.
KINGFISHER PHOENIX FINANCE LTD exists to build systems that the owning team can operate, change and explain without us in the room. Not because documentation is nice, but because businesses that depend on software should not be held hostage by it.
It is a modest mission. After twelve years it still fits on one slide, and our clients can hold us to it without a contract clause.

“I started the studio because I kept seeing clients pay twice — once for the build, and again every year for the knowledge that never got written down.”
Alex Vinogradov, CEO
Alex spent eight years in platform engineering before founding KINGFISHER PHOENIX FINANCE LTD. He leads commercial relationships and still reviews every architecture proposal that leaves the studio.
“Our job is not to be the smartest people in the room. It is to make sure the room does not need us in six months.”
Maria Sokolova, CTO
Maria runs engineering standards and the platform operations group at KINGFISHER PHOENIX FINANCE LTD. She is responsible for the handover checklist that every project now ends with.
Two engineers, one client, and a written handover document nobody had asked for.
Remote-first working across the United States with documented async decisions.
Prototypes built before proposals are written, so estimates stop being guesswork.
A dedicated release engineering group, born from clients who needed faster deploys.
A 24/7 support group staffed by the engineers who built the systems.
If KINGFISHER PHOENIX FINANCE LTD is not the right studio for the problem, we will point you toward someone who is. That has happened more than once, and it has never cost us a client who mattered.
